 Heavy Truck Customer gets "the Boot."This boot, used in heavy trucks, originally required us to formulate an organic rubber compound that had good flex properties and excellent resistance to chemical attack. We recently redesigned and improved the process with LIM technology which greatly reduced the cost by over 50% while improving product performance.
For years this boot, which is used in solenoid applications for heavy duty trucks and off road equipment was offered in both epichlorohydrin and silicone. The boot needs to remain flexible over a wide temperature range and offer chemical resistance to a large variety of harsh materials. In the past, engineers were forced to make a choice between a lower cost product (one made from epichlorohydrin) and a higher performance product (one made from silicone). Thanks to the change from compression molding to L.I.M. molding, this is no longer a concern. The L.I.M. product is a superior performing product that has been offered at a significantly reduced price, entirely eliminating the need to offer epichlorohydrin boots.
